While traveling through Chattanooga, Tennessee, I stopped in a Goodwill — no plan, no expectation. Just walking, looking, listening. That’s where I found it. An old quilt. Hand-stitched. Heavy. Worn in the way only time can wear something. The kind of fabric that feels like it has already lived a life before you touch it. It immediately reminded me of my grandmother. Of quilts that weren’t decoration — they were protection. They kept you warm. They kept you covered. They held stories. I bought it without knowing exactly what it would become. Back in the studio, I studied every square, every seam, every uneven stitch. I didn’t want to erase its history — I wanted to honor it. That’s how “Gma’s Quilt” was born. A mask made from memory. A shield made from softness. A reminder that strength doesn’t always look loud. This piece is about inheritance — not what we’re given, but what we carry forward. This mask is now unlocked. Limited.
